Monday Not Funnies. Andrew McCutchen is having a slump.

Lets hope it lasts a little longer...

Comments

Haha! Funny. The Cubs put him in his slump, hopefully they can keep him in the slump.

Interesting. From an owner point-of-view, protecting your pitchers from injuries while on offense makes total sense. Obviously, the momentum is moving toward DH in the NL and I think it's probably going to happen. Len Kasper called it an inevitability, a question of when, not if. I'm probably going to be an old, cranky holdout on this issue. I like NL baseball. Meh. Ryan

Wanna feel old? Addison Russell's dad is 38 years old.

Great animation, Tim! Love Hammel's eyes in the penultimate frame. Here's hoping this is not the series in which McCutchen starts hitting line drives again. Also, here's hoping this is the series in which Castro stops hitting ground balls at a 60%+ rate and that one or more of Bryant, Rizzo, and Soler start cranking the ball out of the park on a more regular basis. Also, some quality starts from Cubs pitchers not named Arrieta (per the Bruce Miles tweet) would be nice.

Marlins DFA'd Saltalamacchia...$7M contract for this year, $8M for next year.

Was hitting 069/182/207 so far this season  after a .681 OPS last year.

Tonight's lineup

Fowler CF, Soler RF, Riz 1B, Bryant 3B, Montero C, Castro SS, Coghlan LF, Hammel P, Russell 2B

Rangers trade Hamilton to Angels is official. Word here in NYC is the Rangers sending $70 million of the $85 million owed and maybe getting a PTBNL. WOW, they really wanted him gone.

Castillo taking grounders at 3B. Interesting. He's only ever played catcher except 1 game in the majors and 3 in the minors at 1B.

Glad the Ol' Shitter is sent down. He can work on closing out PA's and grooming his beard.

Folks, I've known Richard Lovelady since he was an 18 yr old Freshman at East Ga State College in Swainsboro, Ga.

I was the WBB Coach at EGSC and Richard was their prize recruit from outside of Hinesville, Ga.

My roommate was the Pitching Coach there.

Richard showed up a skinny, loose lipped, 83mph Lefty. Pretty good basketball player actually.

My roommate became the head coach.

Richard came back from a minor injury for his Sophmore year a more serious man. He hit 90mph and started mowing GA JUCO hitters down. It was really fun to watch.

He was the first D1 signee for EGSC baseball (school had only had athletics for five yrs at that point). He went to Kennesaw St and became their closer. One yr later, he hit 100mph and KC drafted him in the 10th Rd.

He lost the high velo with a surgery a while back.

It's so cool to see him in MLB. And now he's a Cub!! It's crazy to realize I actually "know" a Cub.

    He's a legit good guy.

    Easy to root for!!!

Tim. Thanks for remembering Lee Elia Day. It will always be one of the most epic rants in all sports.  It took about 3 seconds to recognize him from your picture but I  did get it right.

Now that Les Grobstein is no longer with us, that might contribute to this grand piece of Cubbery fading.

Just like fine wine, it should be savored...unedited. 40 years, wow.
