Arrieta was not good his last time out: 5 IP, 4 ER, 6 BBs, and 112 pitches for the loss against Cleveland. The Twins have a handful of ABs and are 11-33 against him (.333).

Gibson took the loss in St. Louis on Tuesday, going 6 innings and giving up 3 ER. He has lost his last two starts (also v. KC) and is 0-2 with a 5.68 in his three June starts. He pitches better at home (3-2, 2.84). Only Fowler (3-4 and 2 BBs) and Montero (0-3) have faced him.

Schwarber watch: He went 1-5 with 3 Ks yesterday. That makes 7-18 (.389) since his call-up. Unless the Cubs move to the AL today, this will be the last we see of him for a while.

Yesterday’s game almost made up for Friday. Hats off to Castro for the game winning hit and a big tag to make up for his game on Friday. Russell also made a heads-up tag out. And we got the good Lester, even though he didn’t get a W. Fundamental baseball is the best baseball.

Rubber game, get-away day, and Kershaw tomorrow. Let's get this one.

Go Cubs!

from the twitter feed about Ian Happ...
The Pittsburgh native said it was special to sign with the South Siders in the wake of the promotions of Kris Bryant and Addison Russell.
looks like someone in MiLB Eugene, OR needs a map.

Neil Ramirez pitched one inning, 3K's today. Ready soon. Ian Happ has a double so far tonight (Edit: 2-4, double and HR tonight in an Emerald 9-8 loss)

Is it me or has the ASG voting (MLB and teams’ social media, the running tallies, the pleas from players and managers, the incessant media chatter) gone completely off the rails this year? The Game itself is rarely good and is barely more than a showcase even now that it has some important but remote consequences attached to it. (It’s starting to feel like Christmas and elections.) Let’s try to keep it from dominating the real action in the two months leading up to it. Just play the damn game. </rant>

throwing out 20 million+ votes because of "irregularities" is also a fun aspect of the latest AS game vote. i still enjoy the AS game...the HR derby has been commercialized and stretched so far that it's nearly unwatchable to me, though. it takes 2-3 hours to do something that should take 1/2 the time because of all the sponsorship pimping that needs to be done. i enjoy the minor league all star games much more than either the MLB AS or the HR Derby...easily.

I don't recall the last ASG I watched. I agree with crunch, the minor league ASG is much more interesting.

Blame ESPN for the length of the awful Derby (and Berman), which could be fun. The network wants it a certain length, and MLB gives it to them.

m.olt to AAA tomorrow. he should be back with the cubs in enough time to displace bryant to LF and win the NL MVP for his play in the last 3 months of the season.

wicks 15d DL...cubs select...get ready for this one...richard f'n lovelady.  lovelady's stregnths include being able to throw a ball left handed and that's about it.

    also little optioned, palencia up.

Open 40 man spot might see the return of CJ. He’s been okay in Iowa. Teheran has been rocked in his starts this year. SSS of course.

Wouldn’t be shocked seeing another 40 man spot open with Brewer losing his spot.

Word is that Counsell thought Mervis and Wisdom got too much work in yesterday so it will be Wesneski.

no days off til may 9th.  moves may happen if the pen gets too worked tomorrow.

On top of all that…Wicks scratched for Sunday due to “forearm soreness.” Bullpen day again starting with Mervis or Wisdom (or Wesn).

  • crunch (view)

"Morel told reporters after the game that he felt alright, just a little banged up — specifically noting his right hip and both elbows. He did say that he was optimistic about his ability to play on Sunday, though manager Craig Counsell may have other plans."

rsox putting pablo reyes up to pitch...an infielder...cranking 70+mph stuff.

...and of course he gets out of it with no runs scored...that kind of day for the cubs.

...and wisdom replaces mervis on the mound to try to get the last out.

busch is at 3rd, but i wouldn't read too much into that.

wisdom's thrown a couple in the 80s (one of them 88mph), but both missed the strike zone badly.

matt mervis is no david ross on the mound.

    cubs run differential getting destroyed.
