Arrieta gave up 1 ER in 7 to the Cards in the 3-2 loss on Friday. He rebounded in June (3-1, 2.45) after a subpar May (1-3, 3.99). The Mets are 21-82 (.259) against him. Curtis Granderson is 9-26 (.346) with 3 HR.

deGrom won against the Brewers on Thursday (8 IP, 0 ER, 7 Ks). He went 3-1 with a 2.16 ERA in his 5 June starts, going at least 7 and never giving up more than 2 runs in any one of them. He lost to the Cubs in a night game at Wrigley on May 11 (5 IP, 4 ER, 4 BB). For his career, deGrom is 8-0 with a 1.21 in day games. The Cubs are 6-29 (.207) against him. Rizzo (2-6) and Bryant (1-2) have HRs.

For the set against Miami in Chicago, we’ll see: RHP Roach (0-1, 10.80) vs. Koehler (6-4, 3.77), RHP Hammel (5-3, 2.92) vs. RHP Urena (1-4, 4.04), and RHP Hendricks (3-4, 4.15) vs. RHP Latos (3-5, 5.27).

So now that we’ve stopped scoring runs (and putting our best line-up out there), Arrieta needs to keep Granderson in the park and hit a HR himself, so we can win this one without going to extra innings. Happy get-away day.

Go Cubs!

Comments

yesterday d.ross steals a base and today j.herrera hits a homer. disband the mets...blow it up...start over.

The Cardinals have fired scouting director Chris Correa for his role in the Cardinals’ breach of the Astros’ proprietary Ground Control computer network. This has to lead to MLB penalties of some sort now.

One penalty that would make sense would be the loss of eligibility to participate in the Rule 4 Competitive Balance Draft Lottery for a certain number of years (TBD), since what the Cardinals scouting director did would probably best be described as an attempt to gain an unfair competitive advantage.

it took him 24 pitches, 2 walks, 2 Ks...but he got it done.  woo.

    Full pack!

neris still doesn't have his command/control...

i don't expect it to dog him all season, much like i don't expect alzolay to be a HR machine.

i'll take alzolay over neris to close out a game, though...over leiter, too.

MOREL HR!  his first homer in like, 3 years or something...or feels like it.

top of the 9th, 2 run shot off f'n diaz to break the tie.

Prior to Monday's game at Salt River Fields, RHSP Yenrri Rojas threw a one inning (30 pitches) "live" BP on Field #1 at the Cubs Sloan Park complex, in preparation for what is expected to be his start on ACL Opening Day this coming Saturday morning at ACL Angels. (Although he might not be the best Cubs pitching prospect in Mesa, Y. Rojas has by far been the Cubs most effective pitcher at Extended Spring Training).

The other ACL Cubs pitchers who have been stretched out as SP at Extended Spring Training are RHP Luis Martinez-Gomez, RHP Freilyn Silverio, RHP Wilme Mora, and LHP Miguel Cruz (2023 DSL). Naz Mule figures to eventually be a SP, but he is not stretched out like the other five. .

The ACL Cubs bullpen looks to be LHP Branden Noriega, RHP Scarlyn Lebron, RHP Luis A. Reyes, RHP Gabriel Agrazal, and RHP Fraiman Marte (2023 DSL), and LHP Wilson Cunningham will report to the ACL Cubs when he finishes the Spring Term at the University of Chicago.

Both RHP Eligio Paredes and RHP Mason McGwire are on the Myrtle Beach Development List, so it is unclear right now if they will be assigned to the ACL Cubs or be reinstated at Myrtle Beach.

RHP Mat Peters has been throwing regularly in Cactus League Extended Spring Training games, but he received a PED suspension this past January that will cover the entire 2024 ACL season, so once the ACL season starts on Saturday, the earliest he can return to the mound will be at AZ Instructs (post-ACL) in August.

Among the rehab pitchers currently at Cubs Extended Spring Training, the ones who would appear to be closest to seeing game action are RHP Jaxon Wiggins, RHP Ethan Roberts, RHP Sam Thoresen, RHP Ben Leeper, and RHP JP Wheat. (Wiggins and Roberts threw "live" BP last week, and the others have been throwing bullpen sides on a regular basis once or twice a week).

my fandom has been beat the hell up the past 2 games.  i didn't need a mets leadoff homer.

seiya was spotted doing work with the team pre-game saturday and sunday, but counsell says he's not anywhere near a rehab assigment.

looking a lot like late may return rather than early/mid may return.

steele may return to the bigs after his wednesday AAA start.

hendricks has been throwing off a mound and may get rehab game work later this week.
