Haren lost to the Nationals on Thursday (6 IP, 1 ER) in a game the Marlins lost 1-0. He is 0-1 with a 6.55 in 2 starts against Pittsburgh last year. The Pirates are 16-77 (.208) against him. McCutchen is 4-15 (.267) with 2 HR.

Locke won in Cinci his last time out (5 IP, 3 ER). He was 2-2 with a 3.26 in July. In his three starts against the Cubs this year, he is 0-1 with a 10.22 ERA. He pitches much better at home: 3-3, 2.90 ERA. The Cubs are 26-84 (.310) against him. Rizzo is 6-18 (.333) with a HR.

alright...it's time for the cubs new pitcher...a guy that makes k.hendricks look like a fireballer. hope this rental works out even if it doesn't matter from a talent-lost perspective whether he does work out.

Bryant really looks lost at the plate right now. Even against a lefty tonight can't seem to get a good hack. He's not getting the calls (called strike, three inches inside) but when he does take a cut he's just waving at the ball.

Yep. Early in the year, teams pitched around him. Now, they go right after him, knowing he will likely swing and miss, eve fastballs over the plate. I know he's a rookie, and his OBP and WAR aren't bad for a rookie, but, given all the fuss over him and his service time, I'd have to say he's been a disappointment so far.

His buddy Joey Gallo is hitting about a buck eighty for Round Rock right now. Len and JD said last night the league has adjusted to Bryant. No, they're doing what you just said... throwing to him. The one adjusting is Bryant, and he's just missing the ball. I personally think it is just what happens when a player is in a slump. Not seeing the ball well is their most common complaint when things are going sour. He doesn't have the tremendous bat speed of Schwarber, Baez, or Soler, but it's still a good swing, and he WAS hitting most of the stuff he's missing now. I think when Olt comes up he'll get an occasional day off, and that will help some. The other thing is, not all these prospects are gonna pan out. Hype means nothing once you get to the majors. And the Cubs are still stocked in the minors. Candelario is smoking the ball right now, and something is gonna need to be done about Wilson Contreras, the catcher in Tennessee. And there's still the Cult of Olt to be possibly be reckoned with (old habits die hard). And of course, Baez. A nice little puzzle for the Theo and Company.

I wonder if they will work with him to try to flatten out his severe uppercut in the offseason. Since his swing plane is so different than the plane the pitch is on, making contact is difficult. I honestly think the Bryant myth began to deflate at the HR Derby -- all the announcers were so excited to see him hit, and he fell pretty flat. He has been really struggling since then. I still think he will be good, and possibly very good -- would love for him to go on a hot streak!

Not to be pedantic, but lefty starters don't see too many lefty hitters. They specialize in getting righties out, usually with great changeups that bend away from righties. That pitch doesn't bother Schwarber or Rizzo. It's lefty relievers with the curves and slurves that bother lefty hitters in the late innings. Schwarber has such a great eye (like Rizzo) that nobody is going to give him too much trouble. What a tandem. Imagine facing a team with two Vottoes. I could get used to this.

Jason Motte has been bad ever since Maddon said he has been FABULOUS. Hmmm. The Cardinals, Pirates and Giants have been Fabulous.

Boy, Haren was scary tonight. The defense screwed him over and cost him 2 runs, but there were a ton of rockets that were caught. Keep Clayton Richard's cell number handy.

The Cubs have the next 17 games I think In Chicago almost unheard of I guess I would take a 11-6 record.

    Richard Lovelady one walk & 20 K, 22 hits but no HR, high ERA, and two-to-one GB to FB in 12.1 IP, so I would guess that's why he got the call. Sort of the exact opposite of Luke Little.

    Definitely surprised about Dick Lovelady. He has a phenomenal name but that’s probably the best thing he’s got. I was kinda hoping for Wieck even though he’s apparently still tossing 86 as his heater

    Open 40 man spot might see the return of CJ. He’s been okay in Iowa. Teheran has been rocked in his starts this year. SSS of course.

    Wouldn’t be shocked seeing another 40 man spot open with Brewer losing his spot.
