the brewers are really good at being the brewers. my god...it's like a bad plan gone worse than expected for this team.

walking in a run...after loading the bases with 0 out. neat. HBP in a run...after walking in a run...after loading the bases with 0 out. double neat. this MIL team is awesome!

castro debut at 2nd he's never played anything but SS for the cubs, btw.

castro looks stoked and ready...not 1 shred of whining. it probably helps he's nicely paid and locked in for years, but he's handling his new situation with limited playing time extremely well.

He doesn't seem like a problem character at all to me. And I am fully ready for a career resurgence as a GG 2B who makes up for lackluster tags on steal attempts by flagging down shallow fly balls that nobody else makes plays on. Of course, his career actually hinges on his bat coming around.

If nothing else, if Castro plays well at second he at least boosts his trade value some. I really think Castro needs to go back to being Castro for his hitting to come around. Cubs need to let go of trying to turn him into an OBP guy. Never happening. If he can just start spraying the ball around the field again, and swing aggressively, there are plenty of teams that will happily take a guy who can play both second base positions and collect 200 hits / season.

Of all the players most likely to main second for the Cubs next season (Castro, LaStella, Baez, Coghlan, etc), Castro certainly is the most likely to succeed, but he will need to show something with the bat during the remainder of the season. To that point, I think Castro could be a plus defender at second since the additional time to make a play will help to mask some of his deficiencies at short.

rizzo screwed up castro's webgem from his debut at 2nd (though not his fault). he just makes that play 99 times out of 100.

...and then Castro does what he does best and makes a very tough play on a pop fly in foul territory. He reminds me of Dunston on those. My first time back at the ballpark since "the Strop game"...when Russell gave up the hit in the 9th, I had flashbacks. Fortunately, the Brewers smashed two line drives right at Fowler.

chc win...pit loss...sweeeeeet. stl had to win for pit to get that loss, but 1st place in the NL Central seems a little bit out of reach even with the recent unreal amount of success.

I think that (i) the Cubs could catch the Pirates or (ii) the Pirates could catch the Cardinals. I don't think it realistic that the Cubs could catch the Cardinals. I think if the Cubs make the playoffs, they will most likely play in the WC game.

...and, just to keep the momentum going --- Almora 2-4 with a double tonight. His last 7 games: 16 for 28 with 5 walks.

Well, game 29 on the year was a hell of a game. That felt like a throwback, too. I had a feeling Morel had a shot at catching up to that fastball.

MIL out here stealing 3rd with 1 out and down by 1 in the bottom 9th.

it worked.  this MIL team is annoyingly fun to watch so far this year...

it took him 24 pitches, 2 walks, 2 Ks...but he got it done.  woo.

neris still doesn't have his command/control...

i don't expect it to dog him all season, much like i don't expect alzolay to be a HR machine.

i'll take alzolay over neris to close out a game, though...over leiter, too.

MOREL HR!  his first homer in like, 3 years or something...or feels like it.

top of the 9th, 2 run shot off f'n diaz to break the tie.
