Cubs @ Rockies: Hammel vs De La Rosa (Game 123)

Thought experiment: If Bryant played 81 games a season at Coors Field.CHC (78-44): RHP Jason Hammel (13-5, 2.75)
COL (59-64): LHP Jorge De La Rosa (7-7, 5.29)
First pitch: 3:10pmCST

Hammel has won his last 6 starts--so much for that second-half collapse!--including his last gem against the Brewers (7 IP, 0 ER, 7 K, 3 BB). The Rockies are 23-77 (.299) against him. Hundley is 7-18 with a HR.

De La Rosa had a no-decision against the Nationals his last time out (6 IP, 4 ER, 4 K, 4 BB). He’s marginally better at Coors Field, if you can believe it: 4-3, with a 5.18 ERA. The Cubs are 14-56 (.250) against him. Zobrist, who seems to hit everyone well, is 3-4.

Lester (13-4, 2.86) faces our buddy Edwin Jackson (3-3, 5.36) in San Diego tomorrow at 9:10pmCST.

Go Cubs!

soler scratched...sore leg. he fouled a ball off the back of his leg yesterday and he went down, but he finished the AB. yes, the back of his leg... scuzruzruruzrurzr is replacing him.

Reports that both Coghlan and La Stella will be reporting to Iowa soon. Also reports that Theo has arranged a steel cage death match between the two - winner takes a post-season roster spot

OMFG IT WONT STOP. 1 out in the 1st, COL with a 7 run lead and a man on 1st.

Bottom third, two out and four Cubs errors (and nearly a fifth on the last out). Must have been a good time in the big city last night - one collective team hangover Jinx!

a.russell hit a homer into a trash can...and then 3 grown ass adults fought over who got to dig it out of the trash. "that's the one HR ball we wouldn't say 'Just give it to a kid.'" - len baseball is awesome. cubs down by 9 runs in the 5th...

As Jackstraw or BillyB has said previously, I don't trust Hammel in the Playoffs. I hope he only is used in long relief.

Tough for a breaking ball pitcher to pitch at Coors -- you really need a change-up. Hammel was leaving everything up and in the middle of the plate. I knew he was due for a non-great outing, but yikes! I am fully onboard with the "team hangover" theory, and have pointed out on several occasions that this team has played some really bad games in day games following a nighttime victory. Hmmm.

Don't think it was me who made the comment, but I rarely remember at lunchtime what I had for breakfast. I have wondered over the last three or four outstanding starts that Hammel made why I was still worried every time he pitched. Also, this one is on me since Sunday was my birthday. I texted a friend at the end of one that the Cubs had started celebrating soon after midnight and just decided not to stop drinking. Not sure what Russell has against me, though.

the guy who's 2 for 2 with 2HR, and 2 of 3 hits for the team on the day, is sub'd out in a switch to bring patton. can't we just call this game and go home?

Bummer about the multiple blown leads in Game 1. Cubs always seem to have at least one game like today's when they visit Colorado, and Hammel is not going to be successful at altitude, so this isn't really a shock. Nice job by Rob Z. and Patton (4.2IP, 1 run) to give the bullpen guys (whoever is still out there) another day off.

This is some epic overreaction to Hammel from a game in Coors. Strasbrug got lit up there about 3-4 days ago.

Folks, I've known Richard Lovelady since he was an 18 yr old Freshman at East Ga State College in Swainsboro, Ga.

I was the WBB Coach at EGSC and Richard was their prize recruit from outside of Hinesville, Ga.

My roommate was the Pitching Coach there.

Richard showed up a skinny, loose lipped, 83mph Lefty. Pretty good basketball player actually.

My roommate became the head coach.

Richard came back from a minor injury for his Sophmore year a more serious man. He hit 90mph and started mowing GA JUCO hitters down. It was really fun to watch.

He was the first D1 signee for EGSC baseball (school had only had athletics for five yrs at that point). He went to Kennesaw St and became their closer. One yr later, he hit 100mph and KC drafted him in the 10th Rd.

He lost the high velo with a surgery a while back.

It's so cool to see him in MLB. And now he's a Cub!! It's crazy to realize I actually "know" a Cub.

    He's a legit good guy.

    Easy to root for!!!

Tim. Thanks for remembering Lee Elia Day. It will always be one of the most epic rants in all sports.  It took about 3 seconds to recognize him from your picture but I  did get it right.

Now that Les Grobstein is no longer with us, that might contribute to this grand piece of Cubbery fading.

Just like fine wine, it should be savored...unedited. 40 years, wow.
