The Cubs reach the century mark of the season that may mark their century-long run of futility. A little known fact is that they've lost the 100th game of every season since 1909 foreshadowing their 100-year drought (don't bother looking it up, I've posted it on the Internet, so it must be true)

All kidding aside, the Cubs hopes of a .500 road trip lay on the right arm of Jason Marquis. It's good that he's sporting a 2.08 ERA versus the NL West this season in 60.2 IP. Hopefully he can add to the recent run of success by the starters who have gone into the seventh inning in five straight games and eight of the last ten and have a 2.06 ERA since July 4th (how awesome are press notes - crutch of the ever-lazy writer?).

Of course, it'll require the Cubs offense actually scoring to get the win and Lou has the cure for the road hitting woes (emphasis added):

"...we're canceling batting practice, and the next day, we're going to cancel batting practice. We're going to come out here and just stretch and play. That's it. I'm tired of seeing balls flying all over batting practice, and when the (darn) game starts, I see very little or nothing. So we'll just go play and hope that'll get it going. We did it Sunday, and it worked. So we'll see."

Small sample size means nothing to Lou...

No Brewer has gotten past home plate in the game. EDIT: Son of Cecil just ended that.

An inning and a half into the damn game, and already I'm aggravated. Anybody know the Cubs receord this year in domes and stadiums with retractable roofs? Has to be pretty dismal, I would think.

Brewers won't be denied -- score 4 runs in the last 3 innings to beat the Cards again in St. Louis, and have CC and Sheets lined up for the next 2. They have now won 5 straight on the road. Cubs couldn't dream of doing that -- the current 2-0 deficit in AZ feels like 10-0. Best hope is for a Brewers sweep, and then the Cards get swept this weekend in NY.

good thing the iowa cubs are close by it will be a short trip for kevin hart see ya . wow road trips suck i vote for mighty mike with sneaky power to bat cleanup tomorrow and give ramirez the day off

The Brewers are falling right into our trap. They sweep the Cards, sending St. Louis into a season-crushing tailspin. Meanwhile, the Cubs are cleverly aiming their line drives right at the AZ outfielders, giving the impression of weakness so that the Brewers become overconfident. Then, we sweep the Brewers next week, CC and Prince eat gallons of Fudge Ripple ice cream and spriral into a bloated depression, and we cruise to the division title and more. Yes! Yes!! Now fly, my pretties, FLY!!!!

well brewers could definately sweep cards they have sabathia sheets going next 2 days they are also lined up to pitch monday and tuesday vs. us nothing a tweaked groin for sheets wont cure.

25 games played with a -85 run differential.  insane.

White Sox DFA Bailey Horn. I'm thinking the Cubs would love to get him back although they probably won't have a decent chance of claiming him without another swap.

WSox also call up former Cub Rafael Ortega (and additionally Tommy Pham). They are hurting and having a gawd awful April.

    White Sox DFA'd Bailey Horn.

He wasn't producing good results in Charlotte (AAA).

But Jed might bring him back with that open 40man spot. Then try the "sneak him thru waivers" gambit.

Oh my, now I will have nightmares of me sitting in the bowels of the Wrigley security detention cell.

    One more thing...

One of the reasons I come to this site...

...in addition to Arizona Phil, who is, as we all know, a treasure trove of well-written fresh information, honest evaluation, and sneaky-subtle humor regarding the entire Cub organization...

... is CubbyBlue and Tim's fantastic and timely visual takes on the Cubs (to be fair, he does have a much broader Chicago-flavored brush well beyond the Cubs).  Thanks for so many memorable images.  I am fortunate to own (one of my prize possessions) a print that I framed (55/200) of "The Last Out" with KB's shit-eating grin as he fields the series winning out of the 2016 WS.

Tim, will you visit me if I do the text security thingy and description: Tim S? Or will I find myself in a Cub detention cell.

i.e. "or send a text message to 773-839-**** with the keyword "Friendly" and include your seat location and a description of your issue.

Incredible moment. Huge part of the fun of working there is when something magic like that happens, and you get to interact with baseball fans.

That bear hug was indeed awesome. Word is that Dansby has become an outstanding clubhouse leader and that moment really demonstrated it. That reaction was one of a proud coach/mentor who’s student just excelled. I’m not even sure who was more overjoyed, Dansby or PCA. A veteran expressing that kind of unabashed support and enthusiasm for a struggling rookie is beyond fantastic to see.

BAHAHA! I've actually not seen a single fight, but can't wait to see 70 degrees for sure!

next time i roll up into wrigley i'll try to start a fist fight and maybe we'll meet.

be prepared.  i'm gonna make you earn your money.

seriously, though...that's a cool as hell "retirement" assignment.  i imagine it will be better with warmer nights.
