Cubs @ Reds: Lester vs Adleman (Game 16)

CHC (8-7): LHP Jon Lester (0-0, 1.00)
CIN (9-7*):  RHP Timothy Adleman (0-0, 2.25)
First pitch: 6:10pmCST

Lester, who jumps over Arrieta again, kept up his string of no-decisions on Sunday, despite another strong outing, this time against the Pirates (7 IP, 0 ER, 3K, 2 BB). Last season, he went 2-1 with a 3.03 in five starts against the Reds. Overall, they are 25-107 (.234) against him. Billy Hamilton is 6-10 with 2 HRs, and Votto is 7-24 with a HR. There will be steals.

Adelman has had one outing this season, a four-inning relief appearance of one-run ball against the Brewers. We saw him in two starts last year in his rookie season, in which he went 1-0 with a 3.97. The Cubs are 9-33 (.273) against him. Rizzo is 4-6, and Contreras and Russell have taken him deep.

Arrieta and Reed tomorrow at 12:10pmCST.

Go Cubs!

missed this from a couple weeks ago, but supposedly shohei otani (aka the best player on the f'n planet) will leave japan for MLB next season. hopefully the hype translates. .322 with 22HR last year...while throwing 140ip 174K 1.86 ERA ball...as a 21/22 year old. he turns 23 this july. he hasn't pitched yet this season, but he's hitting .407/.469/.815 in 32PA with 5 doubles and 2 HR so far this season. also, luis robert (high end cuban bat) has been declared a FA, though the cubs aren't expected to be in on that.

Bumgarner out 6-8 weeks Riding dirt bike on off day, lands on side hurts ribs and left shoulder. Anyone doing parrot chat tonight?

heyward HR! legit bomb to RF for his 1st HR. also earlier lester fielded a ball and tossed underhanded for an out, but we can save the 40 replies to this...maybe. baez gets his 1st HR in the following inning. neat.

Cincy baserunners used their heads today and didn't try to do anything tricky on the basepaths. They gave themselves their best chance to win. Showing the rest of the league how you succeed against Lester.

The billybucks mojo lingers all the way to Cincy! Three big comebacks in a row, down 3 or more runs each time, which have been very fun. But, I would be OK with a couple of kick-ass, 10+ run wins, and leaving town with the GA Ballpark a steaming heap of ruins. MIggy swinging a hot bat -- hope Willson can get going soon. I wonder if he is spending so much time working with Lester that his offense is suffering. By the way --- Happ with HR #7. Also -- Wade Davis & CJ look great, and Rondon has been encouraging.

Bullpens been looking good. We have a lot of good, but streaky bullpen guys, so I see a lot of going with the hot hands, when needed most. Hopefully CJ and Davis remain reliable... Grimm got screwed hard by the ump, and was forced to get an extra out. If the ump made the correct call, the inning was over with no damage.

I don't care. A strikes gotta get called a strike. It wasn't even a borderline pitch, it was strike 3, and he never should've faced 3 batters. The game's hard enough, but to make a guy either have to throw four strikes to get an out, or have to make 4 outs to get off the field, a team's usually gonna score.

Hey is Felix Pena still on the Cubs 40 man roster? He's not listed on it at cubs.com, but is on all other websites. A DFA was never announced.

Well, game 29 on the year was a hell of a game. That felt like a throwback, too. I had a feeling Morel had a shot at catching up to that fastball.

MIL out here stealing 3rd with 1 out and down by 1 in the bottom 9th.

it worked.  this MIL team is annoyingly fun to watch so far this year...

it took him 24 pitches, 2 walks, 2 Ks...but he got it done.  woo.

    Full pack!

neris still doesn't have his command/control...

i don't expect it to dog him all season, much like i don't expect alzolay to be a HR machine.

i'll take alzolay over neris to close out a game, though...over leiter, too.

MOREL HR!  his first homer in like, 3 years or something...or feels like it.

top of the 9th, 2 run shot off f'n diaz to break the tie.

swanson breaks it up in the 8th with a single.
