Game 13 Thread - Samardzija vs. Nolasco

Sorry, no time for a recap last night as I got caught up in that Cliff Lee vs. Matt Cain epic showdown. Anyway, Cubs lost in every way possible although they manage zero caught stealings or errors. Iowa lost 6-4, Valbeuna hit a home run and a double. Jackson and W. Castillo hit doubles as well. Jay Jackson gave up 5 in 5.2 IP. Tennessee split a doubleheader, each of the 7-inning variety. Dallas Beeler gave up an unearned run in the first game and K. Rhoderick gave up the winning run for the loss. R. Searle, C. Weathers and F. Batista combined for the shutout in the nightcap with Ty Wright providing all the offense with a solo shot. Peoria lost 5-2, Jose Rosario giving up 3 ER in 4.2 IP.

Bonificaio steals 2b off Soto, although a good throw, he's just that good. Ninja knocks down a grounder, Barney wisely lets Castro field it going towards the play and they get Hanley. Although he was actually safe on the replay. man on 3rd, 1 out though

Cubs select Roy Hobbs with the 6th pick. ...even Roy Hobbs met up with Cubbery. Didn't Hobbs come up as a pitcher before getting shot by the lady in black. I remember the scene where he pitched against The Whammer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Waitkus
Other passengers on the train include sportswriter Max Mercy, Walter "The Whammer" Whambold, the leading hitter in the American League and three-time American League Most Valuable Player (based on Babe Ruth), and Harriet Bird, a beautiful but mysterious woman. The train makes a quick stop at a carnival along the rail where The Whammer challenges Hobbs to strike him out. Hobbs does just that, much to everyone's surprise and The Whammer's humiliation. Back on the train Harriet Bird strikes up a conversation with Hobbs, who does not suspect that Bird has any sort of ulterior motive. In fact, she is a lunatic obsessed with shooting the best baseball player. Her intent was to target Whammer but after Hobbs struck him out, her attention turns to him.

dear swaimy... everyone knows by this point the team is going to be uber-aggressive. let's stop asking guys who can barely make it to their fielding position before the commercial break ends to steal and take extra bases. sincerely, the disgruntled uncle of good intentions

wicks 15d DL...cubs select...get ready for this one...richard f'n lovelady.  lovelady's stregnths include being able to throw a ball left handed and that's about it.

    also little optioned, palencia up.

Open 40 man spot might see the return of CJ. He’s been okay in Iowa. Teheran has been rocked in his starts this year. SSS of course.

Wouldn’t be shocked seeing another 40 man spot open with Brewer losing his spot.

Word is that Counsell thought Mervis and Wisdom got too much work in yesterday so it will be Wesneski.

no days off til may 9th.  moves may happen if the pen gets too worked tomorrow.

On top of all that…Wicks scratched for Sunday due to “forearm soreness.” Bullpen day again starting with Mervis or Wisdom (or Wesn).

  • crunch (view)

"Morel told reporters after the game that he felt alright, just a little banged up — specifically noting his right hip and both elbows. He did say that he was optimistic about his ability to play on Sunday, though manager Craig Counsell may have other plans."

rsox putting pablo reyes up to pitch...an infielder...cranking 70+mph stuff.

...and of course he gets out of it with no runs scored...that kind of day for the cubs.

...and wisdom replaces mervis on the mound to try to get the last out.

busch is at 3rd, but i wouldn't read too much into that.

wisdom's thrown a couple in the 80s (one of them 88mph), but both missed the strike zone badly.

matt mervis is no david ross on the mound.

    cubs run differential getting destroyed.
