Minor League Free-Agents

Today in Cubs History: 12-19

12-19-2003 - Traded Wilton Chavez to the Montreal Expos. Received Jose Macias. 12-19-2000 - Signed Todd Hundley as a free agent. Think this is bad? Tomorrow isn't any better.

Dodgers on the rampage--they just signed Kenny Lofton.

they gonna sign a 4/5 pitcher and some bullpen help to go with their bats?

Definitely Da Bears!!! Why is it that the two articles I've seen talking about how much the Cubs want Jones are both from Min? If there's really that much interest, why isn't Chitown reporting it? Otherwise, is it just straight rumor/bs/spin/generating buzz that really isn't there for a guy that used to play there?? (It would help in his negotiations with KC for sure)

12-19-2003 - Traded Wilton Chavez to the Montreal Expos. Received Jose Macias. 12-19-2000 - Signed Todd Hundley as a free agent. A dark day indeed.

*** Dodgers on the rampage--they just signed Kenny Lofton. *** When your big-market team finishes fourth in your division, it calls for drastic measures. Oh, wait...

If you want to do Lee, I suggest opening with 3 years and 35 mil with 5 mil up front. I'd go as high as 41 mil with 7 mil up front. (In our case, since it's win now, I'd do 10 mil deferred instead of the signing bonus.) So, he gets his 9.5 in 6; in 7, 8 an 9 he gets 12 then we pay him 3.33 for the next three. Rebuild or reload, I don't freaking care. Lock Lee though the early thirties or look stupid.

Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing could be worse than Todd Hundley and Jose Macias. We'll see tomorrow.

12/20/02 Cubs sign LHP Shawn Estes to one-year contract. yuck.

Open 40 man spot might see the return of CJ. He’s been okay in Iowa. Teheran has been rocked in his starts this year. SSS of course.

Wouldn’t be shocked seeing another 40 man spot open with Brewer losing his spot.

Word is that Counsell thought Mervis and Wisdom got too much work in yesterday so it will be Wesneski.

no days off til may 9th.  moves may happen if the pen gets too worked tomorrow.

On top of all that…Wicks scratched for Sunday due to “forearm soreness.” Bullpen day again starting with Mervis or Wisdom (or Wesn).

"Morel told reporters after the game that he felt alright, just a little banged up — specifically noting his right hip and both elbows. He did say that he was optimistic about his ability to play on Sunday, though manager Craig Counsell may have other plans."

rsox putting pablo reyes up to pitch...an infielder...cranking 70+mph stuff.

...and of course he gets out of it with no runs scored...that kind of day for the cubs.

...and wisdom replaces mervis on the mound to try to get the last out.

busch is at 3rd, but i wouldn't read too much into that.

wisdom's thrown a couple in the 80s (one of them 88mph), but both missed the strike zone badly.

matt mervis is no david ross on the mound.

    cubs run differential getting destroyed.

matt mervis pitching...wisdom replaces morel at 3rd.

he's featuring some high-50s thunder on the fastball.

through 15 pitches, he's straight up throwing BP...all mid-high 50s lobs.  no way he's going to jose canseco himself out of a job.

on pitch 21 he railed a 75mph fastball missing high on a 0-1 count.  ha.
