Cubs vs. Marlins: Hendricks vs. Ureña (Game 34)

CHC (20-13): RHP Kyle Hendricks (2-4, 3.93 ERA)
MIA (10-25): RHP José Ureña (1-5, 5.45 ERA)
First pitch 7:05pmCDT 6:35pmCDT

Kyle Hendricks completed a shutout against the Cardinals with only 81 pitches last time out. He missed the Marlins in April. The current Marlins have slashed .254/.324/.328 in 67 ABs.

José Ureña gave up 5ER in 6 innings against ATL on May 3. Rizzo is 5-11 with a HR off of him and Bryant is 1-9 with 5 walks. Lefties have been slightly more successful against him in his career, but the forecast for tonight calls for wind blowing hard right-to-left or maybe out to left field. It'd probably be a good day to run KB out in left field, especially after Schwarber's misadventure in last night's wind.

In addition to the wind, this game will probably see some rain before it's finished.

I-Cubs come from down 0-4 after 6 to extend win streak to 8 as Cub organization beats StL AGAIN! Caratini extends rehab hit streak to 2 @ SB...

Gametime moved up to 6:35pm CT due to the threat of rain.

Thanks, SC!

russell up (please, no standing O cubs fans) and zobrist to the restricted list.

strop to the IL (left hamstring), montgomery up.

zobrist to the restricted list is interesting.  he may be gone a while.  he was penciled in to start last night and was pulled seems to have been a sudden roster move and the restricted list usually isn't a knee-jerk list to get yourself assigned to.

The Cubs didn't place Ben Zobrist on the Restricted List because they need his slot on the 40-man roster, but it's the only way to remove him from the 25-man roster if the leave of absence is not related to the player being ill or injured, a childbirth, a family medical issue, or a death in the family and the Cubs don't want to play a man short tonight.

In this case, think of the Restricted List as an unpaid Leave of Absence, where the reason for the absence (whatever it may be) is simply not one of the reasons that is covered by the CBA.

In fact, Zobrist could be reinstated in time for tomorrow's game (if he 's back by then).

Minor league players are not covered by the CBA, so when a minor league player leaves his team to attend to a childbirth or a family medical issue or a death in the family or for any other reason, the player is placed on the unpaid "Temporatily Inactive List," which is the minor league's catch-all for a player being absent for any reason other than an illness or injury to the the player.

But there is no "Temporarily Inactive List" in MLB, so if a player leaves his club for a reason not covered by the CBA, the club has to use the more draconian sounding "Restricted List" instead.

his wife recently shut down her twitter, this weekend.

hopefully that's unrelated to anything with ben.

just this offseason they were going out doing "chistian power couple" speaking engagements, so even if it is something up with his wife it may not be relationship related.

mixed reaction for with some clapping.

when he K'd he got more boos.

i think he deserves it.  i think he should expect it.  i think if he handles all of this well and keeps "clean" it will eventually pass...and that's okay.  that's just my opinion.

At the moment, I don't care for Addison Russell.  He's done some things that make me go, No Way! -- some things that make me go, eh, that sounds sketchy, and his play has not been very thrilling, either.  I just have too many unpleasant associations that come up when I think of him.

free baseball...

might not have a game tomorrow given the weather forecast.

hell of a last 2 games.

And Joe pinch hits for Descalso again today - now 205/277/316 on the year. But no need to put a jumpy-jump in the parking lot during spring training like they did last year for TLS so it balances out.

Not sure why any of the teams would only have enough talent for one XSL game.

    RIP heyward's bat.

shout out to bo jackson...that was a clean break.

it was a swing/miss with no contact so it's doubtful it was a cracked bat.

    wow baez...also, wow rizzo.

call overturned, but that was a hell of an "almost" play.

he's thrown so little of his other stuff lately that i can't even guess and sure don't know.

he's always been fastball-heavy, but it's almost exclusively fastball now.

he gets movement on a 95-97mph fastball...that's a positive about it if he's gonna continously offer it up.

    Control problems?

    schwarber / baez / rizzo / contreras / heyward / almora / descalso / lester / bote

i guess we're in for 2-20 random games of "pitcher hits 8th" before suddenly deciding that's not a thing anymore...again

it had to feel good for him to get that standing O at the home ballpark.

he's still throwing almost nothing but fastballs exclusively, though...wonder what's up with that.
