CHC (83-60): LHP José Quintana (12-9, 4.14) 
First pitch: 7:05pmCST 

Quintana beat the Brewers in Milwaukee on Thursday (6.2 IP, 2 ER). He’s 3-1 with a 2.64 in five starts against them this season. Overall, they are 60-287 (.209) against him. Moustakas is 12-46 with 3 HR.

Chacin lost to the Cubs his last time out (4.2 IP, 3 ER). He’s 2-1 with a 1.53 in three starts against them this season. For their careers, these Cubs are 33-119 (.277) against him. Murphy is 8-18 with 2 HR.

The lead is down to one game—two in the loss column. Now would be a good time to take the Brewers seriously.

Still can't believe Jeter gave away Yellich.

Marlins avg. attendance this year is less than 10,000.  Last year it was 20,000.

Been a rough few days, but it could be worse -- we could be the Phillies.  14 games over and in first on Aug. 17, they're now 6 over and have lost 7 straight series, including the Marlins, Blue Jays and two series to the Mets.  Woof.

EDIT: Phils blow a 3-run lead in the 9th and lose a DH to the Nats.  Now 10-under since Aug. 14.  Double woof.  Jake must be pullng his beard out.

m.montgomery to start thursday game vs WAS...ya know...if a hurricane isn't dumping a ton of rain on the game or something...

the storm is already causing some spotty rain in eastern/central NC+SC far ahead of it's expected thurs/fri storm eye landfall.

Happ looks absolutely lost at the plate.  Seems to have no concept of what pitch is coming and where it is going.  44K's in his last 88 ABs since August 1.  

Once in awhile the ball seems to hit his bat.

What infuriates me most about Almora Jr at the plate is that he is constantly swinging at the first pitch.   You simply can’t do that if the best possible outcome is a single.  He simply lets pitchers off the hook day in and day out.

he isn’t a poor man’s Baez.  He is a broke Baez.

Needless to say, huge outing by Q -- encouraging to see his stuff and command is better in September than it's been any month this season.

Nice move by Joe in the 8th inning tonight -- Jorge was clearly the right button to push.

Also -- Caratini looking better with more playing time.

on the upside, Addison Russell’s glove is a-ok. Season highlight reel was made on the play vs Braun.

Wonder if Addy just made the playoff roster?

Looks like Happ was guessing breaking ball with 2 strikes and took a fastball right down the middle.  The pitch should have been expected, given they had attacked him with high FB early in the count.  He is a mess.  Really need JHey healthy for the playoffs so he can play CF.

Looking at Q's ERA (now sub-4!) and I noticed only 32 pitchers currently qualify for the NL ERA title.  That's basically only 2 starters per team.  I wonder if they will relax the innings required to qualify (now I believe 162 IP for the year, or 1 IP for every game your team plays), given the change in how pitchers are used.

    ...and of course he gets out of it with no runs scored...that kind of day for the cubs.

    busch is at 3rd, but i wouldn't read too much into that.

    wisdom's thrown a couple in the 80s (one of them 88mph), but both missed the strike zone badly.

    he's featuring some high-50s thunder on the fastball.

    through 15 pitches, he's straight up throwing BP...all mid-high 50s lobs.  no way he's going to jose canseco himself out of a job.

    on pitch 21 he railed a 75mph fastball missing high on a 0-1 count.  ha.

    he's hugging canario in the dugout cuz morel will shrivel up and die if he doesn't hug at least a dozen people a day.

    morel trying to play LF from 3rd...runs into canario while leaping and comes down ribs/arm-first.

    hopefully he sticks around to finish this terrible game, or at least is going to avoid the IL.
