The Cubs are trying to wring every last bit of good things out of the end of the season. As I am in an analogous situation with my father, this is the full post. Like many of you, my father is my first connection to baseball. Enjoy these games with your people if you can.

Listening to this in a hospital room because we are blacked out on MLB.tv. I don't know which surprises me more, that the Cubs haven't beaten the Brewers since April or that the Cubs beat the Brewers in April.

it's never a good time to be in the hospital, but things are extra complicated right now.

Dillon Maples does not have the right to elect free-agency if he is outrighted to the minors, but he will be automatically declared an MLB Rule 9 6YFA at 5 PM Eastern on the 5th day after the final game of the World Series if he is not added back to the 40 in the meantime. 

That said, I fully expect Maples to be claimed off waivers. There aren't too many opportunities for clubs to claim a pitcher with the upside of Maples off waivers. The Orioles, Diamondbacks, Rangers, Pirates, and Nationals (in that order) have the Top 5 waiver claim priority at the moment, but the Orioles and D'backs and the Rangers and Pirates could flip slots by the time the Maples waiver claiming period is over. (The Cubs are #8 right now, but they could possibly move back to #9 in the next few days, depending on what happens with the Cubs - Twins two-game series this week at Wrigley).

Sorry to hear about your dad, Charlie. I lost my father almost 2 years ago now, some of my fondest childhood memories are going to Wrigley with him.

    Richard Lovelady one walk & 20 K, 22 hits but no HR, high ERA, and two-to-one GB to FB in 12.1 IP, so I would guess that's why he got the call. Sort of the exact opposite of Luke Little.

    Definitely surprised about Dick Lovelady. He has a phenomenal name but that’s probably the best thing he’s got. I was kinda hoping for Wieck even though he’s apparently still tossing 86 as his heater

    wicks 15d DL...cubs select...get ready for this one...richard f'n lovelady.  lovelady's stregnths include being able to throw a ball left handed and that's about it.

    Open 40 man spot might see the return of CJ. He’s been okay in Iowa. Teheran has been rocked in his starts this year. SSS of course.

    Wouldn’t be shocked seeing another 40 man spot open with Brewer losing his spot.

    Word is that Counsell thought Mervis and Wisdom got too much work in yesterday so it will be Wesneski.

    On top of all that…Wicks scratched for Sunday due to “forearm soreness.” Bullpen day again starting with Mervis or Wisdom (or Wesn).
