Cubs @ Reds: Farrell vs DeSclafani (Game 74)

CHC (42-31): RHP Luke Farrell (2-2, 3.63)
CIN (30-45): RHP Anthony DeSclafani (2-1, 4.60)
First pitch: 3:10pmCST

Farrell, who is 1-0 with a 1.69 out of the pen so far this month, gets the start. His five scoreless innings on June 2 against the Mets (aka, the Farrell game) certainly worked in his favor—that, and the lack of a better alternative. None of the Reds have faced him.

His only other big league start was in July of last year with the Royals, in which he gave up 5 ER in 2.2 innings against Minnesota.

DeSclafani won in Pittsburgh in his last outing (5.2 IP, 2 ER). This will be his fourth start of the season, after working back from an oblique injury. The Cubs are 20-74 (.270) against him. Heyward and Russell are both 4-11.

Tomorrow, Chatwood and Romano end the series, starting at 12:10pmCST.

Go Cubs!

Was it mentioned here? The Rickettses are on the verge of buying AC Milan.

I think, before he started hitting, the idea was to put Heyward in goal.

in america they call it "soccer" but indians call it "maize" the ricketts family benefited greatly from the "middle class tax break" (which was nearly non-existent for those of us in the middle class without children) to the tune of appx. $700m. i imagine they'll be buying lots of stuff in the coming years.

oh neat.

a grand slam.

a grand slam from the f'n pitcher.

a grand slam from the f'n pitcher for his 1st ever HR.

reds lead by 7 in the 3rd inning. they've hit 2 grand slams through part of game 3 in the 4 game series. neat.

brandon hyde is f'n unloading on the home plate ump from the dugout (lots of profanity) and got ejected.

the announce crew seems to be clueless about what's going on.

"“We continue to seek information that allows us to be comfortable in pursuing Luke,” general manager Dayton Moore said earlier this week."

uh...hell naw.

dayton moore...you f'n suck for even considering this...now do the right thing.

...and those "other teams" considering him need to get their morals examined. the dude isn't going to prison. he's received a full ride at a college to collect the degree he chose to pursue. he's not entitled to a baseball career. good luck elsewhere. later. bye. c-ya.

best starter and 2 top hitters from the team gone...and they keep on winning.

little ahead of myself here, but the RSox got 9 outs to find 6+ runs.

Richard Gallardo just left the Smokies game with an arm injury after going to the ground following a pitch. Doesn’t sound good at all.

Phil, do you think Wiggins will start out in ACL?

The level of conversation on this site is intelligent, reasoned and informative. Miles ahead of other Cub sites.

Prior to the Cactus League game at Papago Park, three Cubs pitchers threw "live" BP on Field 1 at the Cubs Sloan Park complex, including RHRP Ethan Roberts (June 2022 TJS) and Cubs 2023 2nd round draft pick RHP Jaxon Wiggins (February 2023 TJS).

Wiggins last threw "live" BP three weeks ago before being shut down for a couple of weeks, and this was the first time Roberts has thrown to hitters in almost two years.

    JAXON WIGGINS
    ONE INNING:
    25 pitches (11 strikes)
    no batted balls in play
two walks (Suriel and J. Diaz)
three strikeouts (Carico, Lubo, and Escobar - all three swinging)
    six swing & miss
    two fouls
    three called strikes
    14 called balls

    no strikeouts
    no swing & miss
    two fouls
    three called strikes
    eight called balls
    one WP

Mat Peters was bumped by Justin Steele from his scheduled game work at Giants, so he threw two innings of "live" BP with Wiggins & Roberts.

    MAT PETERS
    TWO INNINGS
    44 pitches (23 strikes)
    five batted balls in play (F-7, L-7, F-7, G-6, G-3)

    three WP

wall stole a HR from busch...double.  nice to see him destroy a curve ball.

upon further viewing, that might not have been a homer in too many parks...it had a lot of hang time, though.
