Doesn't seem to me this ought to be Contreras's time, at least not to start. He's a good enough hitter to deserve a few all-star nods in his career, especially if his receiving ever improves a notch or two. But he hasn't been lighting it up this year. I'm glad Baez is getting the nod--it's possible this will be the best first half of his career.

looking through the cubs prospects and seeing how they're doing...i wish i didn't do that.

d.bote, a.lange, t.hatch, m.amaya (who might be the cubs #1 prospect if bote gets enough MLB exposure this season), m.rucker, and b.marquez seem to be all worth mentioning...

...waiting to see what justin steele can do with his comeback

alzolay, de la cruz, a.ademan, and j.albertos have done nothing to help maintain their cubs organization top rankings.

If Bote continues to impress (and isn't traded for a pitcher), I assume the Cubs will need to decide between him and TLS next year -- all other position players should return, and the bench is currently Zobrist, Happ, TLS and a backup catcher. Maybe they'll give Bote another year at AAA and have him take Zobrist's spot after 2019?

Marlins hit 2HR off Hader (one by our old pal Starlin), then score of Knebel in the 10th to beat the Brewers 4-3.  Nice.

1st to home on a ball that clanked off rizzo's glove on a failed pickoff.

javy gets some blame for some low-effort jogging after the ball.

rizzo gets the error.

Maybe we would have been better off facing MadBum.

Nice start for Hendricks -- hope he can build on it.

Well, game 29 on the year was a hell of a game. That felt like a throwback, too. I had a feeling Morel had a shot at catching up to that fastball.

Any thoughts/details on Carico and/or JP Wheat?

cubs finally get to sole control of 1st place in the central.

MIL out here stealing 3rd with 1 out and down by 1 in the bottom 9th.

it worked.  this MIL team is annoyingly fun to watch so far this year...

it took him 24 pitches, 2 walks, 2 Ks...but he got it done.  woo.

    Full pack!

neris still doesn't have his command/control...

i don't expect it to dog him all season, much like i don't expect alzolay to be a HR machine.

i'll take alzolay over neris to close out a game, though...over leiter, too.

MOREL HR!  his first homer in like, 3 years or something...or feels like it.

top of the 9th, 2 run shot off f'n diaz to break the tie.
